Media personality Dr. Magdi Kamel Al-Hawari writes : On Mother's Day, feelings differ, and the world celebrates.

‬‏: Every year, as the gentle breeze of spring begins to unfold, the world pauses on March 21 to celebrate the greatest symbol of human giving… the mother. A figure whose role cannot be measured, whose sacrifices cannot be summarized, and whose value can never truly be expressed in words.
But an important question arises: why was this particular date chosen? And how did the celebration of Mother’s Day begin?
The Beginning… From the West to the World
The origins of Mother’s Day trace back to the early 20th century, when American activist Anna Jarvis launched a campaign to honor mothers, in memory of her own mother, who was a symbol of sacrifice and community service.
In 1908, the first official celebration was held in the United States. By 1914, it was formally recognized as a national holiday by President Woodrow Wilson, to be celebrated on the second Sunday of May.
Mother’s Day in the Arab World… An Egyptian Legacy
In the Arab world, the idea of celebrating Mother’s Day is credited to the renowned twin journalists Ali Amin and Mostafa Amin, founders of the newspaper “Akhbar El Yom.”
In the 1950s, specifically in 1956, they introduced the idea after publishing a touching story about a devoted mother who sacrificed her entire life for her children, only to find herself alone once they grew up.
From that moment, March 21 was chosen—coinciding with the beginning of spring—as a symbol of giving, renewal, and life… just like a mother.
Why March 21?
The choice of this date was far from random. It carries deep symbolic meanings:
The beginning of spring, when flowers bloom and life is reborn
A reflection of renewal, as the mother represents the beginning of everything
A human message that true love never fades, but continuously renews itself
Between Celebration and Gratitude… A Tribute to Every Mother
Today, Mother’s Day is no longer just a passing occasion. It has become a deeply human moment, where children attempt to repay even a fraction of a debt that can never truly be repaid.
On this day, it is not enough to simply say “Happy Mother’s Day”…
We must stand in respect for every mother who stayed up through sleepless nights, endured pain, and fought life’s battles in silence—just to ensure her children’s well-being.
A tribute to the mother who hid her tears behind a smile,
Who carried life’s burdens without complaint,
Who sacrificed her comfort and happiness to build a future for her children.
A tribute to every mother who gave endlessly… without expecting anything in return,
Who loved unconditionally… without limits.
To every mother who raised, struggled, endured, and remained patient…
You are not just a source of tenderness, but the essence of strength, the origin of every story, and the heartbeat of life itself.
In Conclusion…
The real question remains:
Is one day enough to repay such love?
The answer is simply… no.
A mother is not an occasion… she is a homeland, a life, and a story that never ends.
Happy Mother’s Day to every mother…
And may life always flourish because of you ❤️
